About Us

An independent boarding and day school for boys and girls aged 11 to 18, offering the International Baccalaureate at Sixth Form. School life at King Edward’s is based on the idea that building relationships – between pupils and staff and with each other – is key to academic and personal development. The school’s seven-day ethos of pupils and staff living and learning alongside one another means that everyone, boarding and day pupil, is known as an individual, their talents are valued and utilised, and they experience challenge and responsibility at the right level. “Pupils speak openly about the close-knit family atmosphere and their enjoyment of life as part of the school community ... they are conspicuously proud of the school and the opportunities it offers them” ISI report 2010.

Studying at King Edward's

From Lower School to IB Diploma, creating independent learners for tomorrow's world. Academic study and a broad and balanced curriculum lie at the heart of King Edward’s. Our aim is to give our pupils every opportunity to make the most of their abilities through a combination of excellent teaching, a supportive learning environment and by making it possible for pupils to take significant responsibility for the academic direction they wish to take. Encouraging and enabling pupils to work effectively and independently is a key goal. We teach them effective study methods and time management skills to ensure that their busy and demanding schedules are also enjoyable and productive.

Beyond The Classroom

We believe as much learning takes place outside the classroom as in it, and a vibrant co-curriculum is central to our educational vision. During the course of the year, all pupils are expected to follow a balanced programme of activities based on the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) element of the International Baccalaureate and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, undertaken by all Third Form pupils. After lessons, technical centres, playing fields, studios and classrooms buzz with activities from cookery to printing, life saving to learning a minority language, rock climbing to canoeing. There are workshops in the visual arts and dance, orchestras, bands and jazz groups whilst plays and musical productions involve large numbers of actors and back stage crew.

Annual Giving

The Bridewell Foundation’s mission of helping children get a better start in life remains as true today as it did in 1553. One of our great strengths is our diverse community of pupils, staff and parents who come from all walks of life and different countries to live, learn, work and play together at King Edward’s School Witley. Each year, donations from Old Witleians, parents and staff provide bursaries for talented children in need of a boarding school education and enable us to improve facilities and resources for all our pupils. We want to continue to strengthen our community and to do this, we are asking for your support. By making a regular or single gift at whatever level you can afford, you will help all pupils here at King Edward’s School Witley.
